Here are the pictures from our Japan trip in August. It was an extremely hot summer day. It was around 35 degree. When I look at the pictures I can still feel how sweaty we were.

China town’s gate. I understood what I was supposed to do here.

Torneträsk

My friend Kaori visited us in the end of November. We were planning to go to the cabin by cross country ski or snowmobile. But, because of late winter arrival the river wasn’t frozen yet (the cabin is located at the other side of the river.). So, we decided to do a day excursion to Torneträsk and Abisko. Magnus was hurrying me up before we left home. I understood the reason when we arrived at Torneträsk.

It’s around 10:00 am.

Magnus and I participated an art project that was arranged by artist, Lina Issa. It is in the near future that the first area of Kiruna will be emptied because of risks of ground deformation caused by mining. On this project the artist wanted Kiruna people to make a red line to indicate the border line of the first area. Every participant brought red cloth and tied their own cloth to the next person’s. We were supposed to tell the next person about our own memory from this area that will dissapear in the near future.

Njalla in Tuolla

Njalla is a traditional sami pantry built on top of a stick to keep the bears out. What they keep in this Njalla at Tuollavaara industrial park is anybodys guess.

One night I couldn’t sleep so I got up to drink some water and noticed a group of five hares chillin’ under the window. Since my camera was right there I tried to take a few photos of them before they heard a sound and took off.

One was gnawing at his feet.

While most of them were just laying in the gravel, enjoying the tranquility of the night.

Hare doesn’t mind a hard bed.

Staring competitions…

Walpurgis Night

Walpurgis is a traditional festival in Sweden for the coming of spring in the end of April. It seems that there are different ways of celebrating it in different regions of Sweden, but common all over Sweden is that people make a huge bonfire and drink alcohol.

Kiruna tried to be differnt by having a bonsmoker.

Despite smoke in the eyes, the boys were in a good mood.

Lannavaara

As per tradition we set our goals for Lannavaara and the sauna raft on Ahvenjärvi. The weather was the best we have had so far and the water was quite warm.

Magnus was in charge of rowing.

While the sauna got warm, Karl-Oskar practised his Crane pose.

Yuki tried to look as she was not bothered by the horse-flies.

Next day the weather was even better though we could hear some thunder in the distance.

Tromsø

Early this spring we decided to take a roadtrip to Tromsø. We had planned to make many stops in the beautiful Norweigian landscape, but the constant rain and fog made us change our plans.

We arrived in Tromsø on saturday afternoon.

Next morning we discovered that the only thing open for business on Sunday were the (very expensive) parkingmeters. We decided to do some sightseeing before heading back home.

In the harbour we found some boats.

And some more boats.

Yuki tried to make the best out of the situation by playing at the city square.

Then we traveled back home by Kilpisjärvi.
